Got a lot done

Thank God for examinations.

If it wasn't for examination time, I don't know when I would get the pending work over with.

Following is just 3 things that I got done over a day & just a bit more when my 1st semester examination was just 2 days away:

  1. Got a YOURLS instal up and running on http://22g.in/y - Half of the purpose of buying the domain was to use it as a personal URL Shortener. And not exactly liking the thought that bit.ly(s.c9c.in) might render previously shortened URLs useless in case I didn't renew the domain. I am not completely sure if that's how it works, but just wasn't ready to take the risk.
  2. Installed WordPress.org on http://ManveetSingh.com/wordpress. Yes! I wanted a domain for myself as a personal place, but was simply too excited to try out the WordPress install since Day 1 of buying it on the night of December 30, 2010. I got around to the install on December 07, 2011. What a time lag! :P
  3. There were some financials that needed to be worked out ever since a trip to Bengaluru in October 2011 for SAP TechEd Bangalore 2011. Finally the calculations have been done, sums receivable have been defined, snapshot of Pages'08 taken, and mailed to paying parties, and now only payments are left to be received. Thats expected to happen only after the examinations though.

Last year, in December out semester examinations were a bit later than this time. But that was the time that I got the best deal I had seen on a domain name.

  1. I bought http://ManveetSingh.com ₹75/- only in the midst of my 1st semester examinations. The cheapest you can get ;) at least in 2010!
  2. I won a New Year's competition by a new Domain & Hosting provider, which entitled me to a .in domain and hosting for a year. And that competition lead to more business - money flowing from my end to his end - and relationship building.

Lets not Cry over Spilt Milk

Or in this case Lost Opportunities.

Piyush

This is a photograph from a newspaper of a friend of mine - Piyush Goel.

According to the article, he has travelled a lot, and if you read the article it really is ALOT (in all capitals).

Why is this a case of lost opportunity for me?

We were in college together. Same batch. Same branch. Same class.

We in PTU have a whole semester where we have to undergo Internship. He was going to go out of India for his. Me, having tasted US of A, wanted to get back to the outer-India world. I asked him, and he gave me the details. He was a part of AIESEC. A member of AIESEC's DU Chapter.

I told him, I wanted to go too. He arranged for an interview for me in Delhi with a member of AIESEC. The interview was good. They were OK with me being a part of AIESEC.

Then they told me the fees part of it. Fees to go for Internship. I mean I expected that I would have to go on my own, living expenses even might have been my own. But for the process, it was unexpected.

However great AIESEC was, (and is) but we hadnt heard of it. Neither my father knew, nor did I. So we werent completely convinced with the idea of paying a few thousand rupees for processing of internship. We thus simply didnt go for it.

AND Piyush did. He made full use of it.

Such was his network when he got back that as soon as he was back, and our B.Tech finished he was ready to go back to Germany for more :)

I missed an opportunity. But I am happy where I am, and wish to make most of what has come my way!

Plagiarising Sikh Youth

When a work of art Plagiarised.                      It's BAD.
When a work of religious art Plagiarised!        It's bad, and it is SAD.

That is what has been done by the people of Sikh Youth Club

Media_httpsikhiartfil_rdccf

They have taken a beautiful picture of Guru Gobind Singh ji in the forests of Machhiwara, and made it their own.

They simply:

  • removed the logo of SikhiArt.com,
  • got rid of artist's (Bhagat Singh Bedi) signature, and date of painting,
  • airbrushed it to look complete after changes,
  • removed leaves at the left bottom.

And as blasphemous as people can be, they inserted their own logo in their :\

These are the times, I wish India had a strict copyright system in place, so that an action could be taken against those responsible for such a blatant theft!

You be the judge and decide if the photos at:

BBC News - India: Mayawati proposes division of Uttar Pradesh

Mayawati wants UP divided into 4 parts!
BALONEY!!
She has been doing Bull $#!T for years, she wants to just keep on doing it forever-and-ever?

Popular Demand, you say?
What about Telangana then? Isn't it an issue of 'Popular Demand' too??

Till when are politicians going to work on 'Divide and Rule' policy.

a Note to Mayawati: Don't Bull$#!T around no more! If it's time for you to go, leave amicably. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's been dead for long, and I am sure his ideology has been around since longer than he has been dead, why did you just want to go for division?

The eight types of graduate student

Out of the 8 types of Graduates as per  "Education | The Guardian" I think I relate with 2nd one the most!

2. The Student Who Tried Employment

Some postgraduates have been out into the real world and had a real job, with a desk and a computer and a pay cheque and a lunch break and a pension and appraisals and meetings and everything. And, for whatever reason, they have found it wanting.

Which one are YOU?

In no mood to study!

I have my sessional examinations right on my head. No to be exact currently going through, but I don't feel like even looking at the course ware.

It's not that I do not care for them, it's just that I have missed a lot of the courseware being covered in here that I don't feel I know anything, and thus no feeling to study any of it afresh on such a short notice.

I guess a week away at Bangalore for SAPTechEd can do that to you!

But moreover with NaNoWriMo going right now, I feel like being an active participant in that, and it has taken away my wish to study father away from me!

Journey of a Sikher: To beard or not to beard...

I have the same thoughts as Journey of a Sikher: To beard or not to beard...., there is no feeling which can equal the feeling of air freely moving through an open beard! Though I haven't tied my beard, never technically anyways - haven't used a product or such, other than once or twice in beard's formative years, but recently there has been pressure from family to tie it up for family function! What I don't understand is, if I can keep it open for the outside non-family world, why do I need to worry when with family! Just FYI, I tie my beard with a 'thatha' just after a bath, gives it a sort-of-tidier look than a completely open one!
My beard is a part of me, it is part of my identity and it is a part of my uniqueness, it connects me to something so special. It is a prevalent part of my face, in fact between the beard and turban I am just a set of eyeballs and nose! I belong to something greater than just trying to look great for society; I am trying to look my best for something better something higher and something that means much more than this. My entire image belongs to something else, it is not mine, what a dent to an ego that is, when you fail to be able to even have your own image

I have been trying to explain it to my family that
Tying a beard properly takes time and effort; it also takes a lot of patience as anyone who has styled hair knows that every day is different. Depending on the humidity or other factors each day was/is a challenge
also when I travel to Gurgaon (1 hour each side with my face covered) my beard seems to be quite set, because of the hot air; and even if I consider the same time frame but in AC (car or metro) it's not going to be same! They think & hope that I will understand their argument with time; its been, what, some 8 years of time now :) And I keep on hoping that they will be OK with my non-argument on the same!
